Fyodor Sollogub was an outstanding Russian artist, actor, and poet who worked primarily in the field of theatrical arts. Born in 1848 in Moscow, he graduated from Moscow University and briefly served as an assistant prosecutor. However, the theatre became the main focus of his life. He actively collaborated with the Directorate of the Imperial Theatres and private stages. Fyodor Sollogub held the position of head of the scenic design department at the imperial theatres in Moscow and also taught at Moscow drama schools. His talent was highly appreciated by his contemporaries: Konstantin Stanislavsky noted the wonderful scenery and costumes created from the sketches of this master. The Bakhrushin Theatre Museum's online collection features sketches of costumes and scenery by Fyodor Sollogub for the "Hamlet" at the Imperial Bolshoi Theatre, as well as the artist's personal correspondence.
