Mikhail Zagorsky began his literary career in 1904. From 1919 to 1921, he headed the editorial office of the journal Vestnik teatra (“Theatre Herald”). He wrote more than two thousand articles and reviews for periodicals such as Novy zritel (“New Spectator”), Zhizn iskusstva (“Life of Art”), Teatr (“Theatre”), Sovetskoe iskusstvo (“Soviet Art”), and others. These works were devoted primarily to the analysis of contemporary productions, various issues in the history of Russian theatre, as well as to the critique of contemporary scholarly research on theatre (the article series “Polemical Notes”).
