Two Centuries of Marius Petipa

The exhibition represents the life and art of Marius Ivanovich Petipa. It includes documents from the vast archive of Marius Petipa, that Alexey Bakhrushin saved during the October Revolution, and also materials of the Direction of the Imperial Theatres. The exhibits reveal how the French dancer came to Russia and managed to create the Russian classical ballet repertoire, including “La Bayadère”, “Sleeping Beauty’, “Raymonda”, and other masterpieces. The collection represents archive documents, photos, playbills, paintings, and graphics. There are sketches of costumes and scenery by Adolf Sharleman, Karl Valts, Ivan Vsevolzhsky, Alexander Golovin, and other famous artists and scenographers.
