Annotation
“Pushkin and Theatre” is not just an ordinary exhibition, but a national project created to celebrate the 225th birthday of Alexander Pushkin. From more than 20.000 items related to Pushkin and stored in the Bakhrushin museum collections, about a hundred exhibits have been selected and organised into several thematic halls. The travelling exhibition “Pushkin and Theatre” has been demonstrated in Pskov, Berdyansk and Kazan. An important part of the project will be its demonstration abroad in Russian Houses in Azerbaijan and Austria. “Pushkin and Theatre” allows one to look at theatre through the prism of the ideas and views of Alexander Pushkin, as well as to feel the culture that shaped the theatrical side of his artistic personality. Among Pushkin's works, that have been interpreted on the dramatic and opera stage for centuries, there are the historical tragedy "Boris Godunov", the philosophical dramas "Little Tragedies", love lyrics and prose, and, of course, fairy tales well-known to us since childhood. The exhibition presents sketches of scenery and costumes for performances at the Alexandrinsky and Mariinsky Theaters, Moscow Art Theater, Vakhtangov Theater, and the Parisian “Russian Seasons". The works of Mikhail Vrubel, Ivan Bilibin, Alexander Golovin, Konstantin Korovin and Natalia Goncharova deserve special attention. In addition, the exhibition features photographs and painterly portraits of famous actors in the roles of Pushkin’s characters, as well as posters for performances based on Pushkin's works.
