Annotation
Decree on establishing a Russian theatre for performing tragedies and comedies could be considered the beginning of national professional theatre. By that time, Russian drama had already emerged in the person of Alexander Sumarokov, a company of Russian actors had been formed, and its own audience had appeared. The theatre's first performance was a production of Sumarokov's tragedy "Sinav and Truvor" on February 5, 1757, for which the very first playbill was printed.
