The explosion at the Rykovsky Mine caused a wide public outcry, as most of the miners had come there to work from various provinces, including Vilna, Mogilev, Chernigov, Kursk, Smolensk, and Tver. It is therefore unsurprising that the amateur actors at the neighbouring Yuryevsky Plant did not stand aside: on 2 August, they staged performances “for the benefit of the families of workers affected by the explosion at the Rykovsky Mine”.
