Olga Sadovskaya (born Lazareva) was an outstanding Russian stage actress, Honored Artist of the Imperial Theatres, and one of the leading masters of the Maly Theatre stage. Born in 1849 in Moscow into the family of Osip Lazarev, a singer in the imperial theatres' opera troupe. In her youth, Olga was preparing to become a pianist, but in 1867, after an accidental performance in the Artistic Circle's performance, she fully realized her calling to the stage. Her entire subsequent creative life was inextricably linked to the Maly Theatre. Olga Sadovskaya became the first performer of Domna Panteleevna in "Talents and Admirers", Apollinaria Antonovna in "A Handsome Man", Galchikha in "Guilty Without Guilt", and others. Actrisses' art received the highest praise from her contemporaries. Konstantin Stanislavsky called her a "precious diamond of the Russian theatre", while Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko noted that she"didn't need a director: she was her own director". The online collection of the Bakhrushin Theatre Museum holds materials related to the life and work of Olga Sadovskaya and her contribution to the history of the Russian stage.
