Elizaveta Sadovskaya was an outstanding Russian and Soviet actress, a representative of the famous Sadovsky theatrical dynasty, and Honoured Artist of the RSFSR (1927). Born in 1872, in Moscow into the family of actors Mikhail and Olga Sadovsky, she was the granddaughter of the dynasty's founder, Prov Sadovsky. In 1894, she graduated from the drama courses at the Moscow Theatre School (taught by Osip Pravdin and Mikhail Sadovsky) and joined the troupe of the Maly Theatre, where she served until the end of her life. During her mother's lifetime, she performed under the stage name "Sadovskaya 2nd". Among her best roles in the classical repertoire were: Aksyusha ("The Forest"), Gordevna ("Poverty Is No Vice"), Glafira ("Wolves and Sheep"), Snegurochka ("The Snow Maiden"), and Varvara ("The Storm") in plays by Alexander Ostrovsky, as well as Marya Antonovna ("The Government Inspector" by Nikolai Gogol), Liza ("Woe from Wit" by Alexander Griboyedov), and Ariel ("The Tempest" by William Shakespeare).
