Glikeria Fedotova (born Pozdnyakova) was a stage actress, Honored Artist of the Imperial Theatres, and one of the leading figures of the Maly Theatre. Born in 1846 in Orel. In 1862, she graduated from the Moscow Imperial Theatre School, where she initially studied ballet and later joined the dramatic class of Ivan Samarin. That same year, on her 16th birthday, she was enrolled in the troupe of the Maly Theatre, to which she dedicated her entire creative life. Glikeria Fedotova was considered one of the best performers of Alexander Ostrovsky's plays, performing 29 roles in his works. She first played the role of Katerina in "The Storm" in 1863 and performed it for 35 years. Her repertoire also featured brilliant performances as Sofya in "Woe from Wit" (1864), Vasilisa Melentyeva in the eponymous play (1868), Kruchinina in "Guilty without Guilt" (1884), and Lady Macbeth in "Macbeth" (1890). In the 1880s, at the invitation of Konstantin Stanislavsky, she began teaching acting at the "Society of Art and Literature". Actress Alexandra Yablochkina was one of her students. Due to a severe leg illness, the actress was forced to leave the stage in 1905, although she made her final appearance in 1912 on the 55th anniversary of her career, playing Tsaritsa Marfa in the play "Dmitry the Impostor and Vasily Shuisky".
