Alexander Tyshler was born in Melitopol. At the age of 14 he passed the entrance exams at the Kiev Art School. From 1912 to 1917 he was teaching by I. Seleznev, F. Krasitskiy, V. Krichevskiy, K. Monastyrskiy, A. Kruger-Prakhova, G. Dyadchenko and N. Strunnikova. From 1918 to 1919 Tyshler was studying at A. Exter’s studio. In 1919 he made scenery based on sketches of I. Rabinovich for N. Solovtsov’s Theater. Then Tyshler served as an artist in the Red Army. And after demobilization he got back to the native town and participated in the creation and working of “Okna ROSTA” (“Windows of Russian Telegraph Agency”). From 1921 to 1923 he was studying in Vkhutemas (Higher Art and Technical Studios). Tyshler was a member of OST (“The Society of Easel-Artists”), participated in work of Projection Theater and was an exponent of exhibitions in USSR and abroad. Since 1925 he worked in book illustration. Since 1926 Tyshler mostly worked as theatrical artist – in Belorussian State Jewish Theater (Minsk), Theater of Moscow Provincial Council of Trade Unions, Bolshoi Drama Theater (Leningrad), Russian State Pushkin Academy Drama Theater (Leningrad) and others. From 1941 to 1949 Tyshler was the chief artist of The Moscow State Jewish Theater (until it was closed). In Moscow Chamber Theater he designed one production staged in 1947 – "Konstantin Zaslonov" (written by A. Movzon).
