Biography
Falk Robert 1886-1958 Robert Falk was born in Moscow in a family of lawyer. From childhood he was fond of drawing, music and painting. At the end of Peter and Paul Real School in 1904-1905 he studied in the studio of K. Yuon and I. Dudin and in I. Mashkov’s studio. In the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture where Falk was studying from 1905 to 1912 (with interruptions) he was taught by V. Serov, K. Korovin. A. Arkhipov, A. Vasnetsov and L. Pasternak. From 1906 to 1917 Falk was leading an active exhibition activity.in 1910 he participated in creation of association “Jack of Diamonds” and in 1917 joined the community “Mir Iskusstva” (“The World of Art”). After 1917 he was engaged in social and educational activities (the section of visual arts of Ministry of Education, Vkhutemas (Higher Art and Technical Studios). From 1928 to 1937 Falk lived in Paris and also worked there and in Berlin. On his return in Moscow in 1938 he collaborated with the Moscow State Jewish Theater. In Tairov’s Moscow Chamber Theater Falk designed production “Lion in the Square” staged in 1948.
