Vladimir Dragunov is a Russian director and teacher, Honored Artist of Russia and Honored Figure of the Arts of Russia. He graduated from the Faculty of History and the Theatre Department of the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute named after Vladimir Lenin, and then worked as an actor at the Youth Theatre on Krasnaya Presnya. Later, he received his directing education at GITIS. In the mid-1980s, he began his career as a stage director. His graduation production, “Loving You, Kolya”, was staged at the Theatre on Malaya Bronnaya, where he subsequently directed several productions based on works by Andreev, Defoe, and Chekhov. In 1990, he moved to the Gogol Theatre, and since 1995 he has worked as a stage director at the Maly Theatre, where he staged a number of productions, including “The Death of Ivan the Terrible”. Since 2004, Dragunov has taught at the Mikhail Shchepkin Higher Theatre School, where he leads a workshop and stages graduation performances. His production of “Molière” (“The Cabal of Hypocrites”) by Mikhail Bulgakov received the Golden Diploma at the “Golden Knight” International Theatre Forum in 2010. The Bakhrushin Theatre Museum collection preserves photographs, programs, and posters related to productions directed by Vladimir Dragunov.
