Theatre official website: https://akimovkomedia.ru/ The Satire Theatre has been welcoming audiences since 1929 when it moved to its new location at the corner of Nevsky Prospekt and Malaya Sadovaya Street in St. Petersburg. In 1931 The Satire Theatre was merged with The Comedy Theater and named “Theatre of Satire and Comedy”. By the mid-1930s the theatre had been losing its audience until the arrival of the director and artist Nikolai Akimov in 1935. The Theatre of Satire and Comedy was renamed as The Comedy Theatre in 1935. The Comedy Theatre has been known by its nickname “The Akimov Theatre” since the late 1930s. In this way the public noted the special role of Nikolai Akimov in the theatre’s transformation and revival. The Theatre officially received his name in 1968.
