Serafim Nikolaevich Sudbinin was a prominent Russian stage actor, sculptor, painter and ceramicist. Sudbinin's artistic career developed in two directions: theatrical and artistic. He joined the first troupe of the Moscow Art Public Theatre (which later became the Moscow Art Theatre) in 1898 and was involved in almost all performances of the theatre. However, it was his talent for sculpture that gained him the most recognition. Serafim Nikolaevich Sudbinin depicted the art of Russian theatre of the 20th century through sculpture. He gained particular popularity for statuettes commissioned by the Imperial Porcelain Factory, featuring Diaghilev's Seasons participants such as A. Pavlova, T. Karsavina, V. Nijinsky, and F. Shalyapin.
